A Mixed Media Textile Artist, inspired by everyday beauty, Katie combines freehand machine embroidery, appliqué, paint, crochet and more to create her original textile pieces.
Katie Essam, a textile artist and published author, lives in Bexhill, East Sussex, UK. Since graduating in 2011 from the University of Hertfordshire with a BA Hons in Contemporary Applied Art, she has been struck with a passion for textiles. So having taught herself freehand machine embroidery, appliqué and many other textile techniques, she combines them to make original framed, mixed media textile art pieces, inspired by the beauty in everyday objects and vintage.
She especially loves doing commissions. she will take an image which is special to a customer, a personal photo of family, pets, houses (anything) and give them an original, tailored made piece of textile art.
Katie runs tuition sessions, teaching freehand machine embroidery and appliqué, and needle felting workshops. Run from Brighton and further afield, however she is able to travel to your location if you have a group wishing to have a go!
